22-24 May 2012 International ceramic symposium “Pottery in the nutrition culture of world nations” in the town of Opishne in Poltava region. The invited are ceramicists, ethnologists, archeologists, historians, art critics, collectors, scientific institutions, art educational establishments etc. The deadline for applications to Symposium is 1 April 2012.

Purpose: to clarify the place and role of pottery in the nutrition culture of the world nations from ancient times till nowadays, to research the local and general peculiarities of their usage, to expose the interethnic interplay and interconnection in this sphere of material culture.

Main problems: history of study and contemporary state of scientific knowledge about pottery in the nutrition culture// pottery as a source of ceramic researches//definitions//local terminology//assortment//functions of pottery//dependence of potteries’ shapes on their role//regional, ethnic traditions of using pottery in the nutrition culture//peculiarities of using pottery in the nutrition culture in different historical periods// peculiarities of décor of kitchen utensils, dinnerware, containers// hygiene// sanitation//hazards of using the pottery//introduction of the pottery into household//rules of using the pottery//peculiarities of cooking dishes in the pottery//dependence of potteries’ shapes on cooking methods// thermo-technical structures for cooking in the pottery// pottery in cooking and consuming ritual dishes// interethnic and interregional influences and interplay on using the pottery in the nutrition culture in museum displays// nutrition culture in fine arts// pottery in contemporary trade network// pottery in modern culture of cooking dishes.

To participate in Symposium are invited: ceramicists, ethnologists, archeologists, historians, art critics, regional ethnographers, museologists, collectors, scientific institutions, art educational establishments.

Symposium’s working languages: Ukrainian (for Ukrainian participants), Russian, English, German, and Polish (for foreign participants).

The deadline for applications to Symposium is 1 April 2012.

The beginning of a plenary session is 22 May 2012, 10 a.m.

The Symposium’s materials will be published in the separate volume of the National scientific annual edition “Ukrainian ceramicology”.
