An artist from Kirovohrad is a master of tapestry-making. Beside gobelins of high quality she is also famous for bright dolls weaved from threads. These dolls she invented herself in 2000 and received a certificate of authorship for them. The artist is teaching this art her students in the “Tapestry” studio which she founded in Kirovohrad and which is attached to the regional center of children and youth’s creative work.
Large dolls-tapestries of the artist can be used as elements of design and for wall decoration. Among Mrs. Prenko handiworks there also are tiny obereg (guardian) dolls, the size of a little finger. Each of them has its own purpose and is ornamented with corresponding symbols.
The idea to make flat weaved dolls came to the artist’s head many years ago. First, she used to make costumes of different Ukrainian regions for plain plastic toys, and later she tried to weave figures. In this way she has gathered a large collection of flat dolls in Hutsul, Bukovyna, Podillya and Polissya styles.
