Solomia Butkovska

The artist creates gobelins the same way as paintings are made: usually, an appearing idea is realized in a sketch which is later implemented using real material. The only difference with painting is that the work is made not using paints but threads on a special frame.

Creative work

The artist is occupied in creating gobelins preferring technique of manual weaving in large and small forms. Traditions of Lviv School of classical plain weaving are present in her creative work.

Solomia Butkovska is an artist depending on her mood and spirits so she combines different colors – from cold to warm hues – in her works. Solomia likes sun, light and day very much, that is why a circle can be found in nearly all of her works. The artist’s gobelins are notable for different techniques of traditional weaving with additional individual techniques for using cord, sisal, flax.
