Vasyl and Inna Perepadya

An artist from Chernyhiv region together with his wife have been working with rye straw for more than 25 years. They weave hats, decorations and everyday houseware. The couple have mastered the art of straw weaving by themselves and now they are teaching children in the Center of children’s creative work.

Creative work

Rings, bracelets, hoops, round and oval sugar-bowls, dolls, Kossacks, horses, angels and hats of different shapes can be found among the handiworks created by the couple. Besides, Vasyl Perepadya wields an old-world way of hat weaving – the one where the straw is not interlaced but tightly laid out in a spiral way and then tied together with a thread.
