Serhiy Svyatny

Master of wood carving who is known first of all by his derkaches (derkach is a national noise instrument where the sound is obtained by means of rotation — a kind of a national rotating rattle). He makes them of different shapes and sizes. Besides, Sergiy Svyatny can make you rack you brain over “Morocks” (in Slavic mythology it is a gloomy spirit) and beat at a “kolotylo” (a kind of a clapper).

Creative work

Serhiy Svyatny is a master of wood carving from Nizhyn. He works in the area of folk toy, folk musical instruments and traditional Chernihiv houseware. Serhiy uses carving shapes and ornaments of his native Chernihiv region in his works, in this way reviving the best traditions of the Ukrainian Polissya wood carving.
